Originally created for the book Radio Eyes, Stan was selected—along with other leading illustrators of the era—to produce artwork inspired by iconic rock songs and lyrics. He chose the Brian Wilson classic “Heroes and Villains,” interpreting its dreamlike mood through a vintage Hollywood–style scene: a woman in peril as a train approaches, merging drama, romance, and surreal tension into a single unforgettable image.

This illustration went on to have a second life when Phil Hartman—actor, comedian, and respected designer—selected the piece for the Poco album Enamorada. As a fun fact, Stan’s wife served as the model, giving the artwork its intimate realism and emotional depth.
